National Nursing Home Week 2012
National Nursing Home Week begins today, May 13 and runs through May 19. The week is meant to honor those who “contribute” to nursing homes across the country, including staff, residents, families, and volunteers. This year, the theme is “Celebrating the Journey,” which “reminds us that every life should be honored, every life’s story needs to be told and that every day we have the chance to begin writing a new chapter.”
Established in 1967 by the American Health Care Association, the week is spent recognizing the importance of nursing homes. Each year it begins on Mother’s Day. Facilities across the country will hold special events for both community members and residents to commemorate their individual journeys.
Increased community awareness and involvement may help to end nursing home abuse in America.
