TAMPA, FLORIDA, During this holiday season, Distasio Law Firm donated $500 to the “Feeding Tampa Bay” Assistance Program. This Feeding America network program collects and delivers food to more than one million hungry families in West Central Florida.
“The holidays have been especially challenging for everyone this year,” said Scott Distasio, founding attorney of Distasio Law Firm. “The pandemic has unleashed economic turmoil on millions of families who are now struggling to put food on the table. For many, putting presents under the tree was not even an option this year.”
“In the spirit of holiday giving, we want to give the gift of relieving these individuals from the stress of hunger – from not knowing how they are going to feed their families,” Distasio continued. “We believe strongly in the Feeding Tampa Bay Assistance Program and decided it was the best avenue for offering this assistance.”
A History of Donating
This donation is not the first time Distasio Law Firm has contributed to the Feeding Tampa Bay Assistance Program. The firm also donated in June 2020, when it became clear that school closures, extended layoffs, and delayed benefits were beginning to take a toll on local families.
“We felt it was important to support our community, to ensure nobody had to skip a meal or worry about their children going hungry,” Distasio explained. “We are here for our neighbors – always – and we will continue to try to support them as they work to get back on their feet.”

The Need for Assistance Has Never Been Stronger
The team at Distasio Law Firm wants to increase awareness of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have on people’s ability to simply feed themselves and their families.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 22 million jobs were lost during the pandemic, and nearly 10 million people continue to be unemployed. Despite optimism from the forthcoming vaccine, many states are reviving restrictions, resulting in more layoffs. Lower-income Americans are suffering the most from the economic hits taken across the country.
Since the pandemic started, American families have struggled to make ends meet, with 30 percent resorting to drawing from their savings to pay bills, according to a Pew Research Center survey. When it comes to putting food on the table, one out of every six Americans has either borrowed money or appealed to local food banks.
“We sympathize with the despair that our community members must be feeling when they have to worry about where their next meals will come from,” Distasio said. “It’s what has prompted us to become involved in the Feeding Tampa Bay Assistance Program.”
