Why is Uninsured Motorist Coverage Important?
Uninsured Motorist Coverage is a type of coverage on your automobile policy that protects you if you are involved in an automobile accident and the at-fault driver does not have Bodily Injury Coverage, or does not have enough Bodily Injury coverage to pay for your injuries.
Most insurance agents do not explain to you what Uninsured Motorist Coverage (UM) is when you are purchasing an automobile policy from them. In fact, they usually rush right through that section. Sometimes they even try to discourage you from buying it. They do so because the insurance company often loses money on UM coverage.
In our opinion UM coverage is one of the most important types of auto insurance you can buy. The reason is that as many as 1/3 of all Florida car drivers are under insured or have no insurance at all. If one of these people hit you and cause a car accident, you will only be protected if you purchased UM coverage.
Check your Automobile Insurance Policy to verify whether or not you have Uninsured Motorist Coverage. If you do, great…you are protected. If you do not, call your agent and have it added to your policy. It is for your benefit to have this coverage.
