Attorney General is Cracking Down on Nursing Home Neglect
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is responsible for the arrests of several CNAs and LPNs accused of Nursing Home Abuse or Neglect. In a Press Release Schneiderman’s office said that it will continue to pursue safety in nursing homes statewide to ensure that patients are treated with dignity and respect.
Deborah Groth, formerly licensed LPN, was arrested for falsifying records to cover up the neglect of a resident at Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home. Groth adjusted the records of a resident to show that she administered an injection of insulin, took and recorded the resident’s vital signs and applied skin treatment. A hidden Surveillance Camera showed that she did not perform these procedures. Groth entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 3 years in jail and 50 hours of community service and Groth surrendered her LPN license. This is just one of several Nurses that have been found guilty and had their licenses revoked since January.
